It’s been a long time since I’ve done a tire comparison article. The last one I did was back in 2013 and it was between the Bridgestone Potenza RE97AS and the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3+.
A lot has changed since then. Tires have gotten better, quieter, and more fuel efficient. So when I was given the chance to compare two of the latest all-season tires from Bridgestone and Michelin, I jumped at the chance.
The two tires being compared are the Bridgestone Turanza QuietTrack and the Michelin Defender LTX M/s. Both are designed to be quiet, comfortable, and long lasting while providing good all-season traction.
So, which one is better? Keep reading to find out.
Bridgestone Turanza QuietTrack
The Bridgestone Turanza QuietTrack is an all-season tire that is designed for use on sedans, coupes, minivans, and small crossovers. It has a treadwear warranty of 60,000 miles and is available in a wide range of sizes.
Michelin Defender LTX M/s
The Michelin Defender LTX M/s is an all-season tire that is designed for use on SUVs and light trucks. It has a treadwear warranty of 70,000 miles and is also available in a wide range of sizes.
Size tested
For this comparison, I am using the 245/45R18 size, which is common on many popular vehicles such as the Honda Accord, Toyota Camry, Audi A4, and BMW 3 Series.
Treadwear
The Turanza QuietTrack has a treadwear rating of 600, while the Defender LTX M/s has a slightly higher rating of 700. This means that the Turanza should last around 60,000 miles before it needs to be replaced, while the Defender should last around 70,000 miles.
Fuel economy
The Turanza QuietTrack is rated at a fuel economy of 700 miles per tank, while the Defender LTX M/s is rated at 750 miles per tank. This means that you will be able to drive further on a single tank of gas with the Michelin tire.
Snow traction
The Turanza QuietTrack is designed to provide good traction in snow, while the Defender LTX M/s is designed to provide excellent traction in snow. This means that the Michelin tire is the better choice if you live in an area that gets a lot of snow.
Price
The Turanza QuietTrack is priced at $150 per tire, while the Defender LTX M/s is priced at $200 per tire. This makes the Bridgestone tire the more affordable option.
Conclusion
So, which tire is better? It really depends on what you are looking for. If you want a quiet and comfortable ride, then the Turanza QuietTrack is the better choice. If you need good snow traction, then the Defender LTX M/s is the better choice. And if you are looking for the best value, then the Turanza QuietTrack is the better choice.
